Venezuelan watchdog seeks details on political prisoners transferred from El Helicoide

The Venezuelan Prison Observatory (OVP) has called on the Ombudsman's Office to disclose the whereabouts and conditions of political detainees moved from the El Helicoide facility. OVP says the transfers were carried out without prior notice to families and that authorities have not released an official list of who was relocated, where they are being held, or the conditions of their confinement. The organization asks the Ombudsman to verify detention conditions, allow independent interviews with prisoners, and ensure families can maintain contact.

Human‑rights groups, including the Committee for the Liberation of Political Prisoners (CLIPPVE), echoed these concerns, noting the lack of official information and warning that emptying cells does not equate to closing a site linked to repression. They demand transparency, accountability for state officials, and guarantees that families will no longer have to search for their loved ones in prisons across Caracas, Miranda and Carabobo.
