A women’s rally in Caracas on 16 May called for the state to “rescue the value of life,” condemning the lack of transparent investigations and demanding independent, international oversight. Organisers highlighted the suffering of families whose relatives remain missing or detained.
Separately, inmates at the Fuerte Guaicaipuro prison in Miranda reported severe torture, deprivation of basic hygiene, inadequate food, forced nudity, electric shocks and a hunger strike. One detainee, Ricardo Fonseca, attempted suicide, underscoring the alleged psychological pressure. These allegations add to broader concerns about human‑rights violations in Venezuela’s penal system.
