Venezuelan workers demand $1,200 holiday bonus
Labor leaders and workers in Venezuela are intensifying protests to demand a holiday bonus of at least $1,200. In Falcón state, union leadership joined national labor movements to call for improved wages and the recognition of workers' dignity.
In Guayana, employees of the Corporación Venezolana de Guayana (CVG) and its basic industries, including Siderúrgica del Orinoco (Sidor), have rejected a call from the corporation to participate in holiday festivities. Workers and retirees view the institutional celebrations as a strategy to divert attention from ongoing labor disputes.
Protests and a hunger strike have been maintained for over 15 days at the CVG headquarters, where staff continue to demand the $1,200 payment for year-end benefits.
