Venice police seize cocaine and raid illegal occupations in city outskirts
The State Police in Venice’s historic Dorsoduro district uncovered 25 doses of cocaine hidden in a suspect’s underwear during a targeted drug‑trafficking operation. The foreign male detainee was found with roughly 10 grams of cocaine valued at about €1,000 and was later sentenced to eight months in prison and a €1,000 fine.
In a separate sweep, police units conducted extraordinary checks in the Mestre and Marghera districts, focusing on abusive squats and irregular immigration. Over 50 people were identified; a foreign suspect wanted for breaching house arrest after a robbery was taken into custody, and another undocumented individual was ordered to leave Italy within seven days. Both actions were presented as part of ongoing efforts to boost public safety and curb illegal activities in the Veneto region.
