Venice promotes sustainable tourism strategies at national conference
Venice participated in a national conference titled ‘Per un Futuro Sostenibile del Turismo Culturale’ held at the Museo dell’Ara Pacis in Rome. The event brought together administrators and experts from major Italian art cities, including Rome, Milan, and Florence, to discuss strategies for balancing tourism attractiveness with the quality of life for local residents.
Paolo Romor, Venice's Councilor for Culture, emphasized the importance of using cultural heritage to distribute visitor flows more evenly across the year and throughout different areas of the territory. The goal is to attract ‘more informed, slow, responsible, and sustainable’ tourism to reduce pressure on the most crowded attractions.
Data from a study commissioned by GetYourGuide and conducted by Bocconi University suggests that cultural experience booking platforms can help mitigate daily peaks and encourage visitors to explore beyond primary sites, supporting a more balanced tourism model.
