Venice Simplon-Orient-Express to add Monte Carlo to 2027 routes
The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, operated by Belmond, will add Monte Carlo to its annual European itineraries starting in May 2027. The new route will see the historic train travel from Paris through the Côte d’Azur to reach Monaco before continuing to Venice.
Pascal Deyrolle, general manager of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, stated that adding the destination is a “natural continuation” for the service, noting Monaco’s long-standing importance in European travel history. The move holds historical significance for the company; in 1977, businessman James Sherwood acquired two original 1920s carriages in Monte Carlo, which eventually led to the launch of the restored service in 1982.
The journey begins at Paris Gare d’Austerlitz, featuring Art Deco-style carriages with accommodations ranging from historic cabins to Grand Suites and the L’Observatoire carriage. Passengers travel along the French Riviera, passing through Saint-Raphaël, Cannes, and Nice, before the line enters the Monte Carlo station via the mountainside.
