SDSM faces internal crisis as '12:05' platform demands leadership reforms

The Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) is facing intense internal conflict as the '12:05' platform, led by former and current party officials including Igor Ivanovski, calls for structural reforms and leadership changes. The platform organizers claim that current leader Venko Filipče and his inner circle represent a mere faction rather than the true party membership, asserting that their movement represents a potential base of at least 150,000 voters.

Venko Filipče has strongly rejected these claims, labeling the platform participants as 'putschists' and 'mercenaries' acting on orders from VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski to fragment the opposition. Filipče accused the group of attempting to divert public attention from critical issues such as the state of agriculture, minimum wage proposals, and national debt.

In response, platform members like Slavjanka Petrovska have announced plans to deliver a formal strategy for reform to the SDSM leadership, proposing measures such as open candidate lists and a single electoral unit. The dispute highlights a deep divide within the Macedonian opposition as both sides vie for legitimacy and control over the party's future direction.
