Venko Filipče warns of Serbian media influence in North Macedonia
Venko Filipče, president of the SDSM, has warned that the entry of Serbian media into North Macedonia aims to establish “total media darkness” and centralized control over the press.
Filipče stated that the expansion of Serbian influence is a concern previously noted in European Parliament reports. He expressed concern that nearly 40% of local media are already controlled by individuals close to Viktor Orbán, and argued that the influx of Serbian outlets, such as Alo Media, is part of a strategy to consolidate media power under a single center. He also questioned the financial origins of these ventures and cited the loss of Euronews' license to individuals close to VMRO and Hristijan Mickoski as evidence of a broader trend toward media isolation and control.
