Venâncio Mondlane presents human rights dossier to Portuguese government

Mozambican politician Venâncio Mondlane has engaged in diplomatic efforts in Europe to address the political and social situation in Mozambique. In Lisbon, Mondlane met with Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel to deliver a dossier titled ‘Mozambique: A Democracy that Bleeds’. The document outlines alleged human rights violations, political violence, and the repression of opposition members spanning from 2000 to September 2026.

Mondlane requested permanent international monitoring and independent investigations into these claims. The Portuguese government confirmed the meeting, stating the dossier would be reviewed by government structures to evaluate potential further action through international channels.

Additionally, reports have clarified previous misinformation regarding Mondlane’s activities at the European Parliament. While social media posts falsely suggested he delivered a formal plenary speech, official records indicate his engagement consisted of informal meetings with MEPs, such as Jan-Christoph Oetjen, to discuss the use of EU funds and the political climate in Mozambique.
