Venâncio Mondlane presents human rights dossier to Portuguese officials

Mozambican politician Venâncio Mondlane has met with European and Portuguese officials to address alleged human rights violations and political repression in Mozambique.

In Lisbon, Mondlane delivered a dossier titled “Mozambique: A Democracy that Bleeds” to Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel. The document outlines a chronology of political violence, opposition persecution, and the repression of demonstrations occurring between 2000 and September 2024. Mondlane is calling for permanent international monitoring, independent investigative missions, and oversight of judicial processes. The Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the meeting took place to discuss Mozambique and its relations with Portugal and the European Union.

Additionally, reports have clarified recent social media claims regarding Mondlane’s activities in Strasbourg. While viral images suggested he delivered a formal speech to the plenary of the European Parliament, official records indicate he did not address the full session. However, his presence in Strasbourg was confirmed, where he met with Members of the European Parliament, including Jan-Christoph Oetjen, to discuss the political situation in Mozambique.
