Veracruz conducts emergency drills to test new early warning system

In Veracruz, authorities are conducting a large-scale emergency drill to test the first phase of the Early Warning System for Northern Veracruz (SAT-VN). The exercise, involving the State Civil Protection Secretariat and the municipalities of Poza Rica and Álamo, includes the activation of nine acoustic alarms to simulate responses to flooding and mass movements such as landslides.

The drill coincides with the one-year anniversary of devastating floods in the Huasteca region that caused at least 30 deaths and affected over 200,000 people in 2025. Governor Rocío Nahle García highlighted the ongoing reconstruction efforts and the importance of the new monitoring system, which uses real-time hydrometeorological data to provide timely alerts for the Tuxpan and Cazones river basins.

To ensure public safety, officials have urged citizens to remain calm when hearing the sirens and to rely only on official communication channels during the simulation.
