Veracruz begins selection process for ORFIS leadership

The selection process for the new head of the Órgano de Fiscalización Superior (ORFIS) in Veracruz has commenced following the departure of Delia González Cobos. The incoming official will serve a seven-year term, overseeing the auditing of public resources in the state.

Recent legislative changes to Article 67 of the Veracruz Political Constitution have significantly altered the candidacy landscape. The reform removed requirements for candidates to be natives of Veracruz or to have a minimum period of residency in the state, effectively opening the competition to professionals from across Mexico.

At least nine profiles have been identified as potential candidates, many of whom currently hold positions within the Veracruz government, the local Congress, or ORFIS itself. Notable names mentioned include Bárbara Galindo Ramos, currently leading the Contraloría General del Estado; Eric Domínguez Vázquez, subsecretary of Administration and Finance; and Aurelio Rivera Galindo, secretary of Fiscalization for the local Congress.

The registration period for applicants concludes on August 28. Following this, the process will move through interviews and the formation of a three-person shortlist (terna), with a final vote expected in September. The elected official will hold office from September 26, 2026, to September 25, 2033.
