Veracruz Electoral Tribunal dismisses gender-based violence complaint

The Electoral Tribunal of Veracruz (TEV) has dismissed a complaint of “political violence against women based on gender” and “slander” filed by Mara Yamileth Chama Villa. Chama Villa, a former candidate for the municipal presidency of Teocelo representing the Morena and Green Ecologist parties, had alleged a coordinated campaign of threats and revictimization following the June 1, 2025, elections.

The complainant presented 70 screenshots of journalistic articles, claiming they were part of a systematic effort to discredit her and undermine her dignity. However, after hearing arguments from the accused media outlets and journalists, the TEV magistrates concluded there was no evidence to support the accusations of gender-based violence or slander, subsequently lifting previous precautionary measures.
