Veracruz weather alerts issued for drought and heavy storms

Meteorological authorities in Mexico have issued warnings for varying weather conditions across Veracruz. The National Water Commission (Conagua) reports that three municipalities in southern Veracruz—Hidalgotitlán, Jesús Carranza, and Uxpanapa—are experiencing moderate drought. Additionally, 37 municipalities are classified as abnormally dry, with increases noted in the lower Nautla river basin.

Simultaneously, heavy rainfall and storms are forecasted for much of the state. A low-pressure channel and tropical wave 30 are expected to trigger intense precipitation, particularly in the Tonalá, Coatzacoalcos, and Papaloapan river basins. Some areas may experience very strong storms with accumulations between 75 and 150 mm.

Protección Civil has advised residents to remain vigilant due to the potential for electrical activity, wind gusts, and locally intense rainfall. Forecasts indicate increased rain probability in coastal regions, Los Tuxtlas, and the High Mountains throughout the weekend.
