Mexico faces heavy rains and extreme heat as tropical waves sweep the country

The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) warned that tropical waves 9 and 10 will produce intense rainfall across 31 Mexican states. The heaviest accumulations of 75‑150 mm are expected in Veracruz, Oaxaca and Chiapas, with strong thunderstorms, hail and gusty winds reported in many areas.

At the same time, a heat wave is set to grip the north and northwest, pushing temperatures to 40‑45 °C in states such as Baja California, Sonora, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Coahuila and Nuevo León. The capital, Mexico City, will see scattered showers and wind gusts up to 45 km/h.

Authorities have issued alerts for flooding, landslides, road closures and tree‑fall hazards, especially in the southern states, the Yucatán Peninsula (including Campeche and Yucatán) and the central‑south region. The public is urged to stay informed and take precautions against sudden rains, flash‑floods and heat‑related illnesses.
