Veracruz Legislature Holds Hearings on Mayors' Impeachment Proceedings

The Permanent Instructing Commission of the LXVII Legislature of Veracruz convened hearings on July 30, 2026 to examine evidence and arguments in the declaration of procedencia (impeachment) cases against the municipal presidents of Úrsulo Galván and Ixhuatlán del Sureste. The sessions, chaired by Deputy Facundo Fernández de la Cruz and attended by Deputies Ramón Díaz Ávila and Felipe Pineda Barradas, took place in the Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada auditorium. Prosecutors from the State Attorney General’s Office presented their case, after which the mayors Bertín Bravo Montero and Raúl González Martínez, each accompanied by legal counsel, responded. The commission will decide whether to forward a recommendation for a full‑chamber vote on the impeachment.

Bertín Bravo Montero’s defense team denied allegations that he detained businessman Héctor Ramos Sánchez, who disappeared in May 2026. The lawyers argued the meeting referenced in the prosecutor’s file concerned a municipal stone‑purchase contract, not any unlawful confinement, and urged the commission to dismiss the impeachment request.
