Veracruz Port access distributor to open in September 2026
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced that the construction of the roadway distributor providing access to the Port of Veracruz is expected to be completed in September 2026. This timeline marks an acceleration of the project, which was originally scheduled for completion in December 2026.
Located on federal highway 140 between the Santa Rita and TAMSA sections, the project involves an investment exceeding 820 million pesos. The nearly two-kilometer infrastructure includes two lanes per direction, lateral roads, and a new pedestrian bridge. The project aims to reduce travel times to the port by 25 to 30 minutes for a route that currently handles over 34,000 vehicles daily.
The Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport (SICT) reports that work is ongoing, including earthworks, paving, and the installation of concrete barriers and diaphragms. The project has reportedly generated over 16,000 direct and indirect jobs in the Veracruz–Boca del Río area and is expected to benefit more than 700,000 residents in the surrounding municipalities.
