Veracruz port road distributor partially opened, reducing travel times
The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) in Veracruz has opened provisional traffic on one of the two decks of the new 1.97‑kilometre elevated road distributor that provides access to the Port of Veracruz. Vehicles can now travel in both directions on the upper deck while the lower deck remains closed for a week to allow construction of a storm‑water collector and pavement work.
The project, which will ultimately benefit more than 800,000 residents of the Veracruz‑Boca del Río metropolitan area, is expected to cut travel times by up to 25 minutes. The upper deck is slated for full inauguration within about 15 days, with additional works including a pedestrian crossing, relocation of a gas line and fiber‑optic infrastructure. SICT delegate Luis Pimentel noted that the current progress is five months ahead of the original schedule.
