Veracruz weather emergency leaves at least 10 dead

Severe weather caused by Cold Front 2 has resulted in at least ten deaths and widespread flooding across the state of Veracruz, Mexico. The fatalities include four women in Villa Allende, Coatzacoalcos, who were killed when a wall collapsed onto their home, and six family members in Las Choapas who died from carbon monoxide poisoning while using a gasoline generator during a power outage.

Heavy rains have caused the Coatzacoalcos and Aguadulcita rivers to overflow, leading to significant flooding and preventive evacuations in several municipalities, including Agua Dulce, Coatzacoalcos, Ixhuatlán del Sureste, Las Choapas, Moloacán, and Nanchital. Authorities have suspended school classes in southern Veracruz as a precaution.

The Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) has been working to restore power, reporting a 94.61% restoration rate nationwide and approximately 83.33% in Veracruz. Emergency response plans, including Plan DN-III-E, Plan Marina, and Plan Tajín, have been activated, deploying thousands of military and security personnel to assist with evacuations, food distribution, and debris removal.
