Veracruz public works cleans drainage and targets waste management ahead of rains

Ana Isabel Martínez Torres, director of Obras Públicas y Desarrollo Urbano in Veracruz, reported that municipal crews have cleaned more than 23,000 metres of city infrastructure, including canals, collectors and drains, to prepare for the upcoming rainy season. Of the 42 identified drainage structures—29 canals, 7 collectors and 6 drains—36 (over 76 percent) have been serviced, and over 3,800 sewers have been cleared.

Mayor Rosa María Hernández Espejo has launched a waste‑collection program to improve garbage handling, which the public‑works team says is the main challenge remaining. The efforts aim to keep water flowing during heavy rains and prevent blockages that could affect residents.
