Puerto Vallarta launches first electric bus system

The government of Jalisco inaugurated Puerto Vallarta’s first electric public‑transport system on 1 August 2026. Nineteen zero‑emission Yutong buses, operated by the State Urban Train System (SITEUR), were deployed together with ten additional buses run by private concessionaires and three feeder vehicles serving the university campus. The service runs along the Francisco Medina Ascencio corridor, connecting Ixtapa, Las Juntas, Marina Vallarta, Galerías Vallarta, the hotel zone, the international airport and the Centro Universitario de la Costa.

During the launch, Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro highlighted the project’s role in modernising mobility and reducing emissions. The weekend service was offered free of charge; thereafter a unified fare of 11 pesos will be collected via the Mi Movilidad or Única cards. The system is expected to carry more than 9 000 passengers daily and includes dedicated charging infrastructure, new stops and accessibility upgrades.
