Puerto Vallarta electric bus rollout

In late July 2026, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, completed the infrastructure for its first electric bus system. Officials inspected a 10,100‑square‑metre charging station near the municipal police station in Ixtapa, and the fleet of 18 articulated and standard zero‑emission buses was ready. The project, valued at 22.2 million pesos, had been approved through a ten‑year lease to the Urban Electric Train System (SITEUR), and officials expected service to begin within weeks, possibly timed with a visit from Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro.

On 1 August 2026 the system was officially launched. Nineteen Yutong electric buses operated by SITEUR, together with ten additional buses run by private concessionaires and three feeder vehicles for the university campus, began service along the Francisco Medina Ascencio corridor, linking key districts, the airport and the university. The launch featured free weekend rides; thereafter a unified fare of 11 pesos will be collected via Mi Movilidad or Única cards. Authorities project daily ridership of over 9 000 passengers, citing the system’s role in modernising mobility, cutting emissions and improving accessibility.
