Gender-based violence reports highlight fatalities in Argentina and assistance in Veracruz

Reports from Argentina and Mexico highlight ongoing challenges regarding gender-based violence. In Argentina, the 'Ahora Que Sí Nos Ven' observatory reported at least 200 lethal victims of gender-based violence between January 1 and September 29, 2026, averaging one death every 33 hours. The figures include 167 direct femicides, 20 linked femicides, seven incitements to suicide, and six travesticides or transfemicides. Data shows that 64% of aggressors were partners or former partners, and 41% of crimes occurred in the victim's home. The observatory also warned that the 2027 budget proposal lacks specific funding for essential programs like 'Line 144' and 'Acompañar'.

In Veracruz, Mexico, the Center for Women's Justice (CEJUM) reported that approximately 1,111 women have received first-time assistance this year, with a total of 2,400 users receiving follow-up care. The most frequent reported crimes include family violence, followed by pedophilia, rape, and gender violence. Officials noted that Xalapa has the highest incidence of service requests. Authorities stated that an increase in investigation files may reflect growing trust in institutions rather than a rise in violence.
