Veracruz and Guatemala prepare for traditional Catrina celebrations
Traditional Day of the Dead celebrations are expanding across the region, highlighted by the upcoming 8th edition of the Carnaval de Catrinas in Veracruz, Mexico, on November 1. Organizers expect over 5,000 attendees for the parade along the Manuel Ávila Camacho boulevard. The event features participants in traditional or stylized Catrina attire, though organizers have implemented restrictions against Halloween costumes, reggaeton music, political propaganda, and pets to preserve the event's cultural essence.
In Guatemala, the Paseo de Catrinas 2026 festival is scheduled for October 25 at the Real del Parque Shopping Center. The event aims to showcase creativity and support local entrepreneurship through themed stands and costume displays, reflecting the growing adoption of Mexican-inspired Day of the Dead traditions in the country.
