Veradermics experimental tablet shows promise in treating male hair loss
Clinical trials for VDPHL01, an experimental oral medication developed by the American company Veradermics, have shown significant results in treating male pattern baldness. In a Phase III study involving 536 men with mild to moderate hair loss, participants receiving the tablet experienced substantially higher hair density increases compared to a placebo group.
After six months, men taking the medication twice daily saw an average increase of 36.4 hairs per square centimeter, while the placebo group saw an increase of only 6.6. Subjective improvements in hair coverage were reported by approximately 79% to 85% of those using the drug, compared to 35% in the placebo group.
The medication utilizes minoxidil, a substance commonly used in topical foams and solutions, but delivers it in a patented extended-release tablet form. This design aims to maintain efficacy while preventing rapid spikes in blood levels that could increase cardiovascular risks. While the drug was generally well-tolerated in trials with no serious adverse effects reported, researchers noted that long-term safety still requires further verification before widespread approval.
