Veradermics shares surge following positive phase 3 hair loss pill trial

Veradermics, a Connecticut-based dermatological company, announced positive results from a phase 3 clinical trial for its oral pill, VDPHL01, designed to treat mild to moderate androgenetic alopecia in men. The compound is a sustained-release version of minoxidil that utilizes a gel matrix to release the drug steadily, aiming for higher efficacy and fewer side effects than traditional applications.

The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study involved 536 men over a six-month period. Participants receiving one 8.5 mg dose daily saw an average increase of 28.6 hairs per square centimeter, while those receiving two doses daily saw an increase of 36.4 hairs per square centimeter. In contrast, the placebo group showed an average increase of only 6.6 hairs per square centimeter.

Between 78.8% and 85% of participants in the treatment groups reported visible improvement. The company noted that the treatment was generally well-tolerated with no serious adverse events reported. If approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), VDPHL01 would be the first oral pill authorized for this condition in nearly 30 years. Following the announcement, Veradermics shares rose nearly 10% on the New York Stock Exchange.
