Verano Joven program exceeds 2.5 million trips in Spain

The Verano Joven program, initiated by Spain’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, has surpassed 2.5 million trips via train and bus between July 1 and August 10, 2026. Approximately 1.94 million young people aged 18 to 30 have registered to utilize the program’s significant discounts.

In its fourth edition, the government has allocated nearly 130 million euros to fund these subsidies. Benefits include discounts of up to 90% on state-level regular bus services and conventional medium-distance trains, as well as 50% discounts on Avant high-speed services (capped at 30 euros per ticket). The program also covers Interrail passes for travel across Europe, with discounts available through September 30, 2026.

The initiative aims to reduce reliance on private vehicles, thereby lowering carbon emissions and road accidents while encouraging the use of collective land transport. Additionally, the government highlights the program’s role in supporting tourism, cultural exchange, and the development of rural Spain.
