British Columbia safety warnings and new Victoria Indigenous mural
In British Columbia, the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP is issuing warnings regarding pedestrian safety during October, which is Pedestrian Safety Month. Authorities are highlighting the increased risks posed by mobile phone distractions and the use of earbuds, noting that decreased daylight and changing weather conditions make pedestrians harder to see. Drivers are urged to eliminate distractions and expect pedestrians at intersections.
In Victoria, a new Indigenous mural titled ‘The Salish Sea Remembers’ has been unveiled beneath the Johnson Street bridge. Designed by Melissa Barnhard and installed by Jesse Campbell, the artwork celebrates the connection between the Lekwungen people and the waters of the Upper Harbour, featuring marine life and the figure of Camossung.
