Verona hospital doctor suspended for medical fraud
A medical director at the Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Integrata di Verona has been banned from practicing medicine for nine months following allegations of fraud and ideological falsehood.
According to investigations by the Verona Carabinieri and the Public Prosecutor's Office, the professional allegedly accepted cash payments directly from patients for clinical examinations during June and July 2025. These visits were then falsely recorded in medical documentation as services provided through the National Health Service (SSN).
The investigation suggests the doctor utilized her authorization for 'intramoenia' (private practice within a public hospital) to collect undocumented payments while misleading the hospital regarding the nature of the services. The alleged scheme resulted in the doctor receiving an annual gross indemnity of 17,599 euros related to her professional activity, in addition to 380 euros collected directly from four patients.
