Italian healthcare professional disciplinary actions

Disciplinary actions have been taken against medical professionals in different Italian regions following investigations into misconduct.

In the Asl Roma 5 health district, a specialist physician was issued a six-month unpaid suspension by Director General Silvia Cavalli. This decision followed disciplinary proceedings after patients reported that the physician suggested reducing medications and treatments, which allegedly caused their medical conditions to worsen. Although the physician had previously been reinstated after challenging an initial suspension, new reports of similar behavior led to the formal process.

In Verona, a medical director at the Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Integrata di Verona has been banned from practicing medicine for nine months. Investigations by the Verona Carabinieri and the Public Prosecutor’s Office alleged the professional engaged in fraud and ideological falsehood by accepting direct cash payments from patients for clinical examinations. These visits were reportedly falsely recorded as services provided through the National Health Service (SSN) while the doctor utilized ‘intramoenia’ authorization to collect undocumented payments.
