Verona pushes bid to host Euro 2032 matches amid funding debate

Verona is in the shortlist of ten stadiums considered for UEFA Euro 2032, the tournament that will be jointly staged by Italy and Turkey. Regional councilor Matteo Pressi has tabled a motion urging the Veneto regional government to back Verona’s candidature and to include the redevelopment of the Bentegodi stadium in future EU funding programmes. Pressi argues that hosting matches could generate €4.6 billion in economic benefits and stresses the need for a mix of European, national and regional financing.

Europarliamentarian Flavio Tosi cautioned the Verona municipality against committing millions of euros without a guaranteed spot among the five Italian host cities. He noted that Verona’s chances are limited compared with cities like Turin, Milan, Rome and Florence, and warned that the public should not bear the financial risk of a bid that is “highly improbable.”
