Verstappen says 2026 F1 rules make Spa race especially challenging

Max Verstappen said the new 2026 Formula 1 technical regulations are turning the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa‑Francorchamps into a particularly difficult race. He explained that the limits on battery energy and power output reduce the car’s usable horsepower to roughly that of a Formula 3 car, especially in Spa’s Sector 2 and the former Pouhon corner. This, he warned, could make the event “the worst race of the year” for energy management.

Verstappen refrained from harsh criticism, joking that further outspoken remarks might lead to someone “shooting me outside the door.” He said he has mentally adjusted to the new reality and will try to maximise performance despite the reduced power and altered driving experience.
