Vertical Corridor expands LNG transport from Greece to Eastern Europe

The Vertical Corridor is an emerging energy infrastructure project designed to transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Greek terminals toward Central and Eastern Europe. The network utilizes existing pipelines and interconnections to link Greece with Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine, with recent expansions including Serbia and North Macedonia.

Promoted as a key component of European energy security, the corridor aims to reduce regional dependence on Russian hydrocarbons by facilitating the distribution of American LNG. The United States views the project as a significant commercial opportunity to expand its gas exports to the region.

Commercial activity has already commenced. In February 2026, the Greek joint venture Atlantic See LNG Trade signed a contract for the delivery of American LNG to Ukraine, with BP serving as the supplier and Naftogaz as the buyer. Additionally, Venture Global and Atlantic-SEE have agreed to deliver at least one million tons of LNG annually starting in 2030 for a 20-year period.
