Vertiv expands data center infrastructure through strategic acquisitions

Vertiv is expanding its infrastructure capabilities to meet the rising energy and thermal demands of artificial intelligence and high-density computing through two strategic acquisitions.

To address the growing energy bottleneck for data centers, Vertiv has agreed to acquire UtilityInnovation Group (UIG). The deal, which could reach a total value of US$2.6 billion including performance-based milestones, focuses on microgrids, energy controls, and electrical architecture. This move aims to provide on-site power generation and storage solutions to reduce reliance on traditional electrical grids.

Additionally, Vertiv is acquiring King Environmental Services, a Europe-based provider of fluid-management, commissioning, and load-testing services. This acquisition is intended to bolster Vertiv’s liquid-cooling capabilities, which are increasingly necessary as AI workloads generate higher heat densities. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026.
