Vertiv data center infrastructure expansion

Overview

Vertiv Holdings is expanding its infrastructure capabilities to support the energy and thermal requirements of artificial intelligence and high-density computing through strategic acquisitions.

In early September, Vertiv agreed to acquire Utility Innovation Group (UIG) for up to $2.6 billion. This deal, which includes potential earnouts based on EBITDA targets, focuses on microgrid controls, onsite generation, and behind-the-meter power architecture. The acquisition is intended to help data center operators manage onsite energy storage and generation to mitigate grid connection delays.

By late September, Vertiv announced a second acquisition of King Environmental Services, a Europe-based provider of fluid-management, commissioning, and load-testing services. This move is designed to strengthen the company’s liquid-cooling capabilities to address the higher heat densities produced by AI workloads. The King Environmental Services transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026.
