Verzegnis: Hiker and dog rescued after fall and medical emergency
A local hiker was rescued from a ravine in Verzegnis, Italy, on Sunday, November 1, after suffering a severe hypoglycemic crisis and an accidental fall. The incident occurred at an altitude of approximately 950 meters along the CAI 827 trail.
Rescue operations, involving the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps (CNSAS) and the Guardia di Finanza Alpine Rescue (SAGF), were complicated by dense vegetation and strong wind gusts, which hindered helicopter maneuvers and aerial identification. A regional emergency helicopter, which was already in flight for another mission, was diverted to the scene.
The man sustained significant trauma to his face and chest during the fall. He was transported to the hospital in Udine for treatment. His dog was also successfully recovered and brought down the mountain by rescue teams.
