Mountain rescue incidents in Italy
Overview
Recent mountain rescue operations in Italy have involved hikers suffering from falls and medical emergencies.
In mid-October, an 82-year-old Austrian hiker was rescued in Val Rosandra after falling on the Sentiero 1 dell’Amicizia. The woman, who sustained a concussion, was stabilized by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Alpine and Speleological Rescue team and transferred to a hospital in Trieste.
On November 1, a hiker in Verzegnis was rescued from a ravine at an altitude of approximately 950 meters. The individual had suffered a severe hypoglycemic crisis and an accidental fall, resulting in significant trauma to his face and chest. Rescue efforts by the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps and the Guardia di Finanza Alpine Rescue were complicated by strong winds and dense vegetation. The hiker was transported to a hospital in Udine, and his dog was also recovered by teams.
