Veterans mark anniversaries of Croatia's 'Kune' brigade and Bosnia's 'Bušić' unit

In Gorice near Nova Gradiška, Croatia, the 35th anniversary of the 3rd Guard Brigade of the Croatian Army “Kune” was commemorated. The ceremony gathered veterans, families of fallen soldiers, local and regional officials, representatives of the Ministry of Defence, police and veteran associations. Wreaths were laid at memorial sites and speeches highlighted the brigade’s role in the defence of the region during the war and the dwindling number of surviving members.

In Posušje, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the 34th anniversary of the first professional HVO formation, later the 1st Guard Brigade “Ante Bruno Bušić”, was celebrated on 13 June 2026. The event began with a Mass, followed by a march with flags, a minute of silence for the 106 killed members, and wreath‑laying at a monument. Speeches were delivered by brigade veteran Josip Duspara, government president Predrag Čović, and military officials, recalling the unit’s formation in 1992, its casualties and the continued work of the veterans’ association. Both commemorations emphasized remembrance, honoring the fallen and passing the history of the war to younger generations.
