Veterans recall childhood roles in Warsaw Uprising on 82nd anniversary

Bogdan Bartnikowski, who was twelve and a half when the Warsaw Uprising began, describes his participation in the Reduta Kaliska unit of the Home Army’s IV District. He recalls helping older fighters, visiting the surviving building at Kaliskiej 15, and returning each year to Plac Narutowicza for the commemorations.

Wojciech Niesłuchowski, eleven at the time, served as a messenger for the Grey Ranks under the nom de guerre “Stefan.” He delivered letters and newspapers, assisted in a printing press, and helped fetch water and grain for the insurgents. He also recounts the loss of his father during the German reprisals. Both veterans speak about the 82nd anniversary events in Warsaw, including the minute of silence at 17:00 and the March of Memory for civilian victims.
