Vietnam traffic police crackdown on commercial drivers exceeding legal work hours

Vietnam’s Traffic Police (CSGT) used its real‑time journey‑monitoring system to identify more than 4,000 commercial‑vehicle drivers who appear to have operated beyond the legally permitted work‑time limits. Between 00:00 and 07:00 on 23 July, the agency screened 168 buses, trucks and trailers, flagging 18 vehicles moving on highways for further inspection.

Four violations were confirmed and processed on the spot: two drivers were found operating vehicles over the allowed hours, and two cases involved malfunctioning or inactive journey‑monitoring devices and failure to use driver‑identification cards. The police also issued four citations to vehicle owners for assigning work to drivers in breach of regulations.

In a related enforcement action, a bus driver and the vehicle’s owner on the Cam Lâm–Vĩnh Hảo highway were fined a total of 101.7 million VND for multiple infractions, including exceeding passenger capacity, deviating from the approved route, not using a driver‑identification card, and operating with an expired registration certificate.
