Via Baltica to receive smart speed control and traffic monitoring systems
Via Lietuva has launched a public procurement tender to install smart speed control and traffic monitoring systems on the modernized A5 highway section of the Via Baltica, stretching from Marijampolė to the Lithuanian-Polish border.
The project involves installing 23 speed control and warning system posts equipped with variable information signs. These systems are designed to provide real-time updates to drivers regarding traffic conditions, weather, and road status, allowing for dynamic speed adjustments based on current safety requirements.
Transport Minister Juras Taminskas noted that these innovations aim to increase road safety and ensure smoother travel. The technology, which was tested during the previous winter, allows for higher speeds during optimal conditions and mandatory slowing during adverse weather. Via Lietuva head Martynas Gedaminskas emphasized that the initiative is a significant step toward creating a more modern and safer road infrastructure.
