Via Lietuva launches major highway reconstruction projects across Lithuania
Road construction firm Via Lietuva received a building permit to rebuild the state‑significant road 130 between Kaunas, Prienai and Alytus. The 12‑km stretch will be expanded to a four‑lane motorway with three tunnels, several viaducts, new animal crossings and noise barriers. Daily traffic exceeds 10 000 vehicles, including about 800 heavy trucks. Minister of Transport Jūras Taminskas highlighted the improvement in safety and capacity, while Via Lietuva director Martynas Gedaminskas said construction should start this autumn and finish by the end of 2028.
In parallel, a simple repair contract worth €1.9 million has been awarded to UAB Fegda for a 2.2‑km section of the A2 Vilnius–Panevėžys highway (km 72.96‑75.19). Work is scheduled to be completed by November and will be carried out under a 3+1 lane traffic scheme. The projects are part of a broader national programme to renovate roughly 170 km of the most heavily used roads by 2026, improving safety, reliability and reducing long‑term maintenance costs.
