Viana do Castelo approves 200,000 euro Christmas lighting plan

The Viana do Castelo City Council has unanimously approved a cooperation protocol with the Business Association of the District of Viana do Castelo for the city's Christmas lighting and decorations. The project involves a 200,000 euro investment, maintaining the budget from previous years while expanding the scope to include more streets and new multimedia elements.

The lighting program is scheduled to run from November 7, 2026, to January 10, 2027. Key features include extending multimedia shows along the entire Avenida dos Combatentes da Grande Guerra and installing a giant 3D illuminated Christmas tree in Largo de São Domingos, which will also host multimedia performances.

To support traditional commerce, the lighting circuit will now include Rua de Viana. The initiative aims to revitalize the local economy and distribute visitors more effectively throughout the historic center and various urban spaces, including several avenues, squares, and landmarks such as the Sé Catedral de Viana do Castelo.
