Agrigento commits to 100% renewable energy transition by 2045

The Municipality of Agrigento has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Greening the Islands Foundation and the Blue Planet Alliance to pursue a transition to 100% renewable energy by 2045. This agreement makes Agrigento the first municipality in mainland Europe to join the 100x100 Campaign and the 100% RES Islands Initiative.

Under the agreement, the partner organizations will provide technical expertise, policy guidance, and financial roadmaps at no cost to the municipality. While the partnership does not provide direct funding for infrastructure, it aims to facilitate connections with private investors and financial institutions to develop solar photovoltaic systems and energy storage solutions. The initiative serves as a pilot case for applying island-based renewable energy models to mainland Italian towns.
