Vicenza police arrest fake marshal in gold jewelry fraud

On the morning of 12 June 2026, the Squadra Mobile of the Vicenza police observed a disoriented 34‑year‑old man from Campania near the city’s train station. After hours of surveillance, agents followed him to a peripheral neighbourhood, where he entered an elderly resident’s home and fled ten minutes later with a bag containing gold jewellery and cash. The police intercepted him, recovered the entire loot and placed him in custody.

Investigations revealed the scam used a pretended Carabinieri marshal who called the victim’s daughter, persuading her to go to a police station to sign documents about a supposed vehicle seizure. With the daughter away, the impostor entered the home and stole the valuables. The recovered items have been returned to their rightful owner.
