Vicenza TAV construction site suspended due to asbestos discovery

Construction activities at a TAV railway site in Vicenza, Italy, have been suspended following the discovery of asbestos during the demolition of a building near viale Verona and the Ferreto de Ferretti overpass.

Vicenza Mayor Giacomo Possamai has issued urgent ordinances to protect citizens from potential contamination. The first ordinance directs Iricav Due and its demolition contractor to immediately secure the asbestos-containing material and implement environmental monitoring to detect any increase in airborne fibers.

The site has been placed under judicial seizure. Authorities, including Arpav, Spisal, and Ulss 8 Berica, are conducting inspections to establish safe procedures for the removal and disposal of the hazardous material. A second area in via dei Montecchi is also under scrutiny, though hazardous materials there may predate the railway works.
