Asbestos discovery at Vicenza TAV construction site
Overview
Construction at a TAV high-speed rail site in Vicenza, Italy, was suspended following the discovery of asbestos during building demolition near viale Verona and the Ferreto de Ferretti overpass. In response, Mayor Giacomo Possamai issued ordinances to secure the hazardous material and implement environmental monitoring, leading to the site being placed under judicial seizure.
Subsequent air quality monitoring conducted by Arpav in the Viale Verona area indicated no presence of asbestos fibers or signs of particle dispersion in the atmosphere. Despite these results, the construction site remains under seizure. Local authorities, including the Environment Councilor, the health authority (Aulss), and the Public Prosecutor's Office, continue to oversee the remediation, removal, and disposal of the materials.
