Víctor Jara legacy honored through new musical and theatrical productions

Various cultural initiatives are commemorating the legacy of Chilean singer-songwriter Víctor Jara. To mark the 94th anniversary of his birth, Aula Records and the Fundación Víctor Jara have released a preview of ‘Víctor Jara, un canto libre’. This musical project features ten fundamental works by the artist, adapted into a symphonic-choral format by Sergio ‘Tilo’ González and performed by the Orquesta y Coro Sinfónico Usach.

In Valparaíso, the Compañía Teatro A-temporal is presenting a theatrical production titled ‘Víctor tiene sentido y razón. Concierto teatral para Víctor Jara’. Directed by René Rojas Escalona, the play reconstructs an imaginary concert that was prevented from occurring on September 11, 1973, due to the military coup in Chile. The performance aims to explore Jara’s biography and his historical role within the New Chilean Song Movement.
