Victor Marx faces criticism over anti-socialist rhetoric in Colorado race

Republican gubernatorial candidate Victor Marx is facing criticism following comments suggesting the military should be sent in to counter the rise of socialist candidates in Colorado. Marx, a Marine veteran, has emphasized his military background as a source of discipline and integrity for government, positioning himself against organizations like the Democratic Socialists of America.

Critics have responded to his rhetoric by labeling it a “left-wing boogeyman” and noting that many local socialist-leaning platforms focus on affordable housing and healthcare. Some observers also pointed out the irony of his stance given the socialized nature of military benefits and training.

Marx has selected retired Marine Colonel George Markert as his running mate. Markert, a former U.S. Senate candidate, stated that his decision to join the ticket was a “moral obligation to serve the people of Colorado.” The Republican ticket aims to become the first GOP leadership in the state in two decades, facing Democratic nominee Phil Weiser in the November election.
