Victoria and Albert Museum to host Freddie Mercury exhibition
The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London will host a special exhibition titled “Freddie Mercury: Splendid Things” to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Queen frontman's birth. The exhibition, which runs from October 24, 2026, to January 17, 2027, is designed as a trail across six different museum galleries rather than a single room.
Developed with the support of Mary Austin, Mercury's former fiancée and close friend, the display features iconic costumes and accessories from the 1970s and 1980s. Notable items include the monochrome ensemble from Queen's 1973 debut album cover, the ‘Mercury Wing’ catsuit used during the ‘A Night at the Opera’ tour and the “Bohemian Rhapsody” music video, and the signature crown and cloak worn during the 1986 Magic Tour.
The exhibition aims to highlight Mercury's passion for art, design, and fashion, placing his flamboyant stage presence in dialogue with the museum's existing collections. Admission to the trail is free and does not require a reservation.
